C.J. Johnson joined Cogent Analytics following an 18-year career in Minor League Baseball. He worked for several organizations, including Hagerstown Suns (S.F. Giants, NY Mets, Washington Nationals), Trenton Thunder (N.Y. Yankees), and Winston-Salem Dash (Chicago White Sox).
Throughout his career, C.J. held various sales and marketing management roles. In addition to leading successful ticket and sponsorship sales, he secured and managed relationships to sell tickets for other organizations, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Pac-12 Conference, U.S. Figure Skating Championships, and Winston-Salem Symphony.
In 2017, Johnson was promoted to President and General Manager of the Winston-Salem Dash. In his first season as Team President, the Dash set its all-time single-game attendance record (9,011), led Class A Advanced Baseball in attendance (30 teams), and received the Class A Bob Freitas Award. The Freitas Award is presented by Baseball America and recognizes the top overall organization out of 60 Class A teams.
As an Assistant Director of Business Development, Johnson is focused on recruiting, training, and continually developing and supporting “a Super Bowl team” of Cogent Analytics Regional Vice Presidents.
A 2003 West Virginia University graduate, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and is currently working toward a master’s degree in Sport Management from Western Carolina University. He plans to teach part-time evening sports sales courses. Johnson has been active on non-profit community boards throughout his career and has been honored by the Triad Business Journal and Greater Winston-Salem Incorporated for their Under-40 Awards. He is married with two daughters and a loyal Labrador Retriever.
