To Whom it May Concern,
Our staff knew that we needed to make changes to our business platform, but we needed help. I’m not saying that we were not intimidated at the thought of a consulting company coming in to dissect our business. We began the process with a sense of dread. However, after six weeks of long days and a lot of discussions, we feel like our consultant is a part of our team. We are a small company with an average number of twenty-five employees annually.
Most of those employees are field technicians that spend ninety-nine percent of their time in the field. It is hard to make them feel like they are a part of the “big” picture and keep them motivated for that very reason. Our office staff works closely together. Sometimes our roles are not clearly defined, and this leads to issues with stepping on each other’s toes and details slipping through the cracks.
Cogent did indeed come in and dissect our processes. However, instead of coming in, pointing fingers, and berating us for the things we were doing wrong, they lifted us up. Our field team was brought in for meetings and shared their ideas, needs, and concerns. It isn’t that we had not done that in the past, but this time there was an unbiased mediator with them to help them communicate their thoughts in a positive manner. The office team was given a chance to do the same thing on an individual basis. Cogent took our discussions and implemented new tools to help us share information more effectively and reduce our frustration and stress.
Our experience with Cogent Analytics has been nothing but positive. Everyone we worked with over the last six weeks was professional and respectful of both our time and talents. Chris Harris, our primary consultant, is now a member of the ComLink family. He brings a lot of management experience to the table, and he has a good team behind him. I feel confident that we will grow in positive ways if we continue to utilize the changes Cogent helped us make.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Ray

The Geiler Company – Letter
This being the first time we have had an outside consultant invited to view our operations, I was of course concerned how we as a company, and particularly myself as it’s leader, would be viewed by someone with the experience of working with contractors all over the country. At no time did I find myself, or our company effo1ts being criticized, but rather we were encouraged by the number of things we are getting right and the small changes we could make to significantly improve our results.
I know we are not your usual client in that we are strong financially, have a good backlog and customer base and have many talented employees. However, we saw the advantage of having this type of review at this time in order to improve our results when we are strong and prepare Geiler to make the leap to the next generation. With Andy Parsons’s help, we have identified key areas of improvement (inventory, construction productivity, computer system) and a path for that improvement.
Andy Parsons is a true professional, first diving into the numbers to see where we are currently, and our historic results. He meshed well with every Geiler employee he had direct contact with and though not afraid to point out obvious areas of improvement he did so in a way that was logical and encouraging. He has a rare gift of understanding people very quickly and putting them at ease. The thing I was most impressed with was the reaction our higher-level employees had in embracing the training he personally did and that which we used outside resources.
I would highly recommend the services of Cogent and particularly Andy to any firm needing or seeking improvement in their operations.

To Whom it May Concern,
It can be intimidating for an outside consultant to come into your business and tell you what all you are doing wrong. Most businesses do a lot of stuff wrong, but they also do a lot of stuff right.
The job of a business consultant is to tell you your weak points and help you to improve, but to do that you have to admit that you are not doing the best job in certain areas. When Cogent Analytics arrived at our office, there was some fear with the staff, but the consultant quickly put them at ease, and soon they all started seeing the value of their work.
We want to grow our business to another level, and to do that, we need to know how to do it. We would rather learn this from others instead of learning everything through our mistakes. Cogent’s help has allowed us to set the stage for the next level. To know what we need to do. To plan strategically and help our employees to grow along with the company. I feel more confident that we are on the right path with their help.
Thank you for all of your help.

R&F Tile and Marble Co. – Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
R&F Tile and Marble Co., Inc. began working with Cogent Analytics about six weeks ago. We decided after the initial presentation Cogent Analytics could help us better understand how to manage a financially sound business.
Matt has implemented many changes such as adding a cash management summary, tools to track job costs, adding a sales dashboard, and business forecasting among other tools to help the business achieve our goals. Matt has been very knowledgeable, professional, and attentive to our needs. I highly recommend Cogent Analytics to any business looking to continue to have successful growth.

Remington Medical – Letter
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience working with Cogent Analytics. It has been a pleasure watching the leadership teamwork so closely with Irvin and embrace the idea of running the company as a team and not as individuals running departments.
2020 started off like any other year. As a leadership team, we knew that we had several systemic challenges that we were going to attack. We started off with a great pace and began putting things in place. Then the curveball of a global pandemic came into the mix. While we still advanced towards our goal of aligning our long-term plans and instilling more accountability, there were many distractions.
As we got close to the end of the year, we had not made the progress we had hoped. And the effects of the pandemic highlighted our weaknesses even more. Therefore, we invited Merlin into the organization for a Discovery. As expected, the issues he saw were in line with those we had identified but several other issues were brought to light.
Through our internal efforts, we outlined where we wanted to be in one year, three years, and ten years, at a high level. But we had no plan for how we were going to get there. We didn’t have a granular strategic plan. With our goals in place, Merlin’s findings in our back pocket, and the realization that we needed to accelerate our plans, we hired Cogent to propel us towards our big picture goals.
Irvin arrived over three months ago, as I write this, and immediately dove in headfirst. Within a week he had the attention and confidence of the leadership team. He was a member of the team. He wanted to deeply understand the ins and outs of the business and why things are the way they are. He didn’t immediately claim to have all the answers, but little did we know.
As the engagement is coming to a close, I can confirm that Cogent has provided great value to the organization. We now have a detailed plan of how we are going to achieve our goals. These plans include career development for up and coming employees, skills gap analysis (including the development of an Apprenticeship Program with the state and local technical colleges), clear and defined accountability, and so much more.
I can say with confidence that the entire team will miss Irvin once the engagement concludes and will look forward to his visits during the Lifecycle Relationship phase. We send our sincere thanks to the entire Cogent Analytics team that we have worked with throughout this process. I look forward to moving forward with the clarity of the path and plan that will take us to where we want to be.
Sincerely,

Cogent Analytics,
I have found that working with Cogent Analytics to be a very informative and rewarding experience. They have helped in a number ways to ensure my business will be poised for sale when that time comes.
Initially I was skeptical as the Project Director (PD) assigned to us kept saying, ‘Where are your financials?’ ‘You have to use ‘GAAP’! At times I would enjoy mocking the PD by saying this back to him, and he took it in without becoming upset with me. Yet now after 4 weeks or so, they have shown me what specifically they were talking about and I see the benefit of having the spreadsheets and the GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles).
With one item in particular having to do with cost analysis of a particular job that was recently canceled, they saved me over $400,000 that I would have had to pay back to a customer. This was achieved with the PD helping to realize the actual costs of labor and overhead utilized on that particular job. They often refer to the use of ‘tools’, which are complicated Excel spreadsheets with equations embedded in them. One of these tools was used to determine the actual cost and a realized profit margin mentioned above. In the past I would have used a % markup which is somewhat lower than a pure profit%.
With respect to moving me off of my Excel sheets that I have been using for over 25 years they have helped me begin the transition to Quick Books and have provided me with access to one of their QB consultants for on line assistance. Although I still need to find someone local to take over the online QB updates, this is a very good beginning.
Another very good improvement the Cogent PD did for us was to help solve a number of communication issues with individuals whose normal method of communicating with each other was not professional and at times (myself included) and could be characterized as unprofessional and caustic. These issues have been corrected or at least we are moving in the right direction, by their introducing the use of a ‘Record of Conversation’ document combined with a calmer approach to communicating with coworkers, switching to more of a coaching mentality.
If I had hired them 4 years ago I would have been able to retire by now.
Best regards,
Thomas Wilkinson

Ohio Service Group – Letter
Today marks the end of our several-months long engagement with Cogent Analytics and, unfortunately, the end of our time with Andy on site. I do sincerely mean it when I say that our entire team will be sad to see him go; yet we remain grateful for the insights he provided, the knowledge he imparted, and the new course for the company that he has helped chart. Andy truly became part of the team and quickly became viewed by everyone in the company not as an outsider but as “one of us.” It was amazing to me how deeply Andy immersed himself into our history, culture, and people, to such a point that he was able to articulate all the strengths of Ohio Service Group and effectively pitch the opportunity to outside groups even better than most of us could have.
The last three months have been full of challenges and triumphs that no one could have foreseen. Andy guided us through a complete restructuring of the company, implementation of new processes and controls, realignment of resources, investment in new technology, personnel changes, and all the other business operation changes that were badly needed. In addition to that, Andy was with us through the chaos and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and corresponding shutdowns. The challenges that Ohio Service Group and so many others faced during that time were unprecedented, and Andy stayed with us through all of it. The fact that Andy chose to stay on site with us when everything was ordered to lock down spoke volumes to us of his commitment not only to the project, but to each of us as individuals he had come to know. We are
deeply appreciative of that conscious decision he made and the many positive benefits we have enjoyed from his time here. We all feel strongly that we were given a project director but actually received so much more – we ended up with an ally, an advocate, and a friend.
Over the last few month Andy has helped the leadership team view our roles and responsibilities a new and more productive light. He has helped us analyze the new sets of data to make better decisions and re-align key segments of the business. All throughout that process, I noted that he never pushed solutions or decisions on the executive team or in any way tried to impose anything. Rather, he ensured that he furnished the team with the necessary information and context, and in some cases provided coaching and mentorship, but then he allowed the executives room to make the calls. I believe that through this process we all have learned a great deal from him and are positioned to be self-sustaining and to continue the forward momentum well into the future.
My expectations for this engagement with Cogent Analytics have all been more than met Andy has exceeded every one of them. I do look forward to our next opportunity to work together and I would highly recommend your services.
Southwest Galvanizing, Inc. – Letter
I want to extend my appreciation to Michael Beadle and his team for their efforts and hard work in helping myself and the Southwest Galvanizing Team get better organized and structured in our business operations. The time spent at our facility has been invaluable in setting up our Job Pricing Module, Position Descriptions, Evaluation Forms and KPl’s, just to name a few. This has helped pave our road forward into the future and I would heartily recommend Cogent to any business organization.
I personally look forward in continuing with the different steps outlined and reap the benefits of the efforts made.

Heneghan and Associates Letter
Our company has recognized the importance of Project Management to improve efficiency and profit for years. Over those years we have created many policies and procedures that were effective … for the 1 or 2 or 3 months we used them! In every attempt to implement a good management plan or an improved process/procedure, we quickly reverted to our standard practice of foregoing the management process and fighting the hottest fires. Cogent helped us resurrect the old plans and develop new plans to provide synergy with what we were already doing (or supposed to be doing). I believe the best service Cogent provided our company was a simple Management Operating System that is easy to follow, easy to replicate, and easy to adjust to changing conditions. It took an outside consultant to prove to us that simple procedures that seemed daunting in previous attempts WILL work and are worth maintaining.
We had a lot of the tools necessary to improve efficiencies/profits. They were just sitting on the shelf gathering dust. The Cogent team was able to recognize the existence of our tools early in their discovery and implementation process. They worked with what we had as opposed to reinventing the wheel or forcing their tools into our operation. This has helped our managers and employees buy into the process early and I believe it will help us follow through and maintain the process in perpetuity.
There are many tools, many methods, and many consultants available to get a company from point A to point B. I am a strong believer in the concept that the path taken doesn’t matter as long as you get where you are going. I believe Cogent helped Heneghan and Associates in developing the path that worked best for us. I have no hesitation in recommending them as an assistant in your journey.
Sincerely,
Ronnie Paul, P.E.

Markle Manufacturing – Letter
To say that the 7 plus weeks to date since we started this journey was a learning experience would be an understatement. Going in, we were a company in dire straights with our fingers crossed waiting for an upturn in the market to save us. Today we can see that much of the danger we were facing was self inflicted and largely due to a lack of understanding of the real costs of running the business and how to appropriately cover those costs in our pricing. Going in, we were a company with 50 years of history going through the biggest change in our history with new upper management being thrust into control of a 65 employee 10-15 million dollar a year sales business with approximately six years total management experience between myself, the VP, and Steven Friese – General Manager. So we relied on our greatest strength – a willingness and want to change, free from the embedded ways of how we viewed the business in the past.
From the first interview with Merlin VanGerpen, I knew we were in good hands. And while the blunt matter-of-fact style Merlin employed during our discovery was sometimes hard to hear, it was just what we needed to tear down that little bit our clinging to the old ways and making that leap of faith in accepting all the new ideas that would soon be coming our way and needing to be put into practice immediately. It was clear there was no more time for second guessing, by final interview we were committed, well Steven and myself were, with the President and employee-owner staff showing much skepticism and apprehension at bringing in outside help. “There is a story that is told in the numbers” was something that Merlin said and when naming our project “Matrix” that was exactly what I was hoping to learn. The numbers of our business and how to stop being afraid of what we didn’t understand. Today I feel with growing confidence that not only will we understand those numbers completely, but will soon be able to use that understanding to motivate and accelerate Markle manufacturing on a track of success for our next 50 years of business.
We were ready for project “Matrix”, but had little understanding of exactly how our project director was going to approach the tangle of issues uncovered by Merlin as well as the issues we saw as needing to be addressed. “Was he really going to wear a suit and tie every day I wondered, they’ll never go for that” I thought. My mind was soon put at ease the first day when Irvin made it clear that he ready to roll up his sleeves, but on some steel toes and get down to business. I could also tell immediately that this was not someone who sought to tell us all the things were doing wrong, but instead, sought to understand our business, its traditions, it’s quirky dynamics and all. We had learned of Irvin’s background and expertise and even I had a little bit of skepticism that he would be able understand a business he had only a little experience in. I soon learned that the fundamentals of work flow, proper separation of roles and responsibilities, procedure, and clear and useful managerial accounting made up about 90% of what was needing to be understood about Markle and that is something Irvin brought with expert knowledge. That idea was further proved when in less than a couple of weeks Irvin covered the other 10% in being able to talk about the business like he had been working there for years.
From the very first day Irvin made us feel like we were still in control, that he was looking for solutions to problems that we saw as well as those recently discovered by Merlin. We were laying out the “what” while Irvin presented the “how”. Irvin soon became the mentor we were needing and taught me personally a lesson that may not have even been apart of Cogent Analytics game plan, and that was a lesson of leadership. The way he was able to come in and soon gain the support and trust of the entire staff was proof that so much could be communicated, directed, and taught with a listening first servant-leadership style that was in such contrast to the heavy handed authoritarian model we had been accustomed to and knew we wanted nothing to do with going forward.
It has been a bit of a dramatic 7 weeks, beginning with narrowly avoiding a union strike and the new managements first foray into union contract negotiations. Followed by the exit of a key drafting department member, and then a hard lesson in bringing in outside talent that we ended up hiring and firing in less than a three week span. And finally, the passing of the general foreman and longest tenured employee, having just weeks before been honored with his 50 years of service and tragically passing due to cancer complications. Through it all, I was able to see a palpable change in the energy of my team and a real feeling that this was going to work. This is still just the beginning and it will be awhile before the plan as we see it will be fully realized, but momentum is gaining, morale is improved, and zeroes and ones of the reality of our business are not as scary as they once were. I remember the cost of this process being such a concern prior to signing on, I would be the first to urge others thinking of taking on CA’s services to dismiss those fears completely. We for one, could not afford NOT to.

Cobb Industrial Fabricators Letter
Dear Cogent Analytics,
We have been very satisfied with the process and results of this journey. Our expectations have been exceeded.
This started for me July of 2019 when I first was contacted by Cogent. At the time, I did not feel I needed an outside person to come into my business. In hindsight, this is something that I should have signed up for right then and there instead of waiting! When Merlin came to do the discovery, it was like a slap in the face and huge wake up call. When we realized that if we did not act on this, we could continue in our silent suffering and most likely close the business by the end of the year. It was time to put myself and pride aside and get this done.
When Vincent walked in, he presented an air of excitement and terror to us, both in a good way. I knew I had someone that would push me and that I could learn from and respect. Vincent was able to succinctly explain what direction in which he was going to direct us. More importantly to me, let us know what his expectations of us would be to make this a successful engagement.
Vincent has been an absolute pleasure to work with! He pushed me to my limit a couple days, but his intensity only relit my passion for the reason I was in business for myself. He brought excitement back into my soul for bringing this business to the level I knew we should be operating. The success platform that is now in place for us to operate the business and bring us to the next level has been the highlight of this engagement.
Nancy and I are very excited about the Life Cycle Program! We look at this as an opportunity to protect our investment in building a successful business for both us and those that support us.
We look forward to recommending Cogent Analytics to anyone that may be in a similar situation!
Sincerely,
David & Nancy Wilkins
Jewell Manufacturing, Inc. Letter
To Whom it may concern,
When I was first approached by Cogent Analytics to do a business analysis, I was initially skeptical as I had used another consulting firm in the past several years with mixed results. The previous firm was very thorough and detailed but had provided way too much material way too fast to be absorbed and implemented fully. I was skeptical but I was also interested in having a different set of eyes see what they could find. After expressing my concerns and fears about “drinking from a firehose” again, we agreed that a slower and more measured plan could be implemented that would allow time for us to implement any needed changes but also allow everyone to keep up with their day-to-day duties.
One of the first items that was implemented was a Cash Management System that allowed us to better manage A/Rand A/P. We are now proactive instead of reactive and have actually reduced the amount of late payments considerably. Along with the CMS, Cogent recommended and we have implemented a reorganization of our Chart of Accounts. This reduced the number of accounts by more that fifty percent and gave us a clearer picture of our expenses.
Being a small company, everyone wears a lot of hats here and the lines of responsibility had become blurred. Cogent helped us establish a company organization chart to clearly show the chain of command and also created primary job descriptions for everybody along with performance review guidelines to let all employees know what was expected and how they would be graded at review time. These metrics along with many other Key Performance Indicators will allow us to manage by the numbers instead of going with a gut feeling like we have done in the past.
One last change that was implemented was the hiring of a General Manager. After many hours of talking and working with my Project Manager Matt about the entirety of the business, we came to the conclusion that hiring a GM to run the company would free me up to do what I do best which is working in the fine details of the business.
Overall, I am very happy that I decided to have Cogent Analytics become a partner in improving and making my company more successful and look forward to maintaining that relationship with Cogent’s Lifecycle Management Program in the future to maintain the progress we have made and achieve our long term goals.

T2 Contracting, Inc. – Letter
To Fellow Entrepreneurs,
I was contacted by Cogent in 2015 to enhance my business, they performed a Discovery Analysis on my company and noted several deficiencies that they could help with. I elected not to proceed and they followed up in 2020. They performed another discovery and same deficiencies were found. If nothing changes…nothing changes!
T2 Contracting engaged Cogent Team to start realigning Cash Management System, Operations, Reporting, Employee Skills and Evaluations and Performance Payment Incentive to create more buy in from team. George started via COVID Teams Meetings as everyone in the country and then was released to be “Boots on the Ground” and has been with us for the past 8 weeks with all project goals being identified with solutions, KPI’s and clear SOP’s for future growth.
I appreciate Cogent partnering with T2 Contracting and providing us with tools and training for us to define profit instead wish for it. Thank you, George for being hands on and giving us rapid change and direction. I look forward to future growth.

Spohn Associates Inc. – Letter
This recommendation is in reference to Cogent Analytics and their ability to assess our organization and provide specific examples on how their services and representatives would have an immediate impact on Spohn Associates Inc. Cogent Analytics reviewed our processes, consulted with our team, and provided a detailed description of expectations. Cogent Analytics provided a project director, Warren Witter, to work with our team and we are appreciative of his hard work consulting our team and guidance he provided with needed changes associated with our organization.
Cogent’s Project Director conducted himself with the upmost professionalism and leadership, he was committed from day one to assisting our organization through many facets of our day to day activities all while maintaining focus on developing short and long term goals.
Cogent Analytics and Warren Witter would be a tremendous asset for any organization and I would highly recommend any organization needing assistance to request their services; their ability to positively impact change was recognized immediately and will continue long after their departure.

Parking Lot Maintenance – Letter
To Whom it may concern,
It is my pleasure to strongly recommend Charlotte D’Alfonso as a project director with Cogent Analytics.
I am Todd Bruening, owner of Parking Lot Maintenance (PLM) and have been a business owner for 20 years, learning processes and procedures on my own to grow a profitable and stable operation. Charlotte D’Alfonso is a partner that uniquely stands out and understands the metrics we need to track in order to be successful.
During our time together, Charlotte displayed great insight into helping PLM establish Key Performance Indicators (KPl’s).When we first met, I was immediately impressed with Charlotte and her intimate knowledge of business policy and procedures.
I am absolutely confident that Charlotte would be a great fit for your organization. Not only will she bring the skills and knowledge you’re looking for, she quickly became an asset to PLM within the 7 week engagement period.
Serenus J. Construction – Letter
It is my pleasure to write this letter in response to our experience working with Bob Hahn, our project director who was assigned to our company by Merlin VanGerpen.
I am the president/owner of Serenus Johnson Construction as of October 1,2014. I have worked for the company for the past 30 years. This past summer we celebrated our 100th year anniversary as a General Contractor in Bay City, Michigan. We have been very successful over the years, but I could see that we needed to create more structure and procedures to move us into our next century of business. With this understanding it was a clear decision for me to hire Cogent Analytics as a management consultant.
Bob Hahn arrived at our door step at 8:00 am on October 28, 2019. Bob and I spent most of that Monday together so he could understand our company and my goals for the future. He had a plan in place based on previous information I had provided, but after our first meeting, he made some corrections to make sure he met my expectations. Bob has walked us through everything from Organization Development, Cash Flow management, Sales Forecasting to Profit& Expense Control. Bob and I have worked well together, he started off by saying “think of me as your business partner, I want our company to be successful”. He also told me, after the first week, that our company was very sound and successful, we just needed to be polished in a few areas. I took that as a compliment and agreed to his assessment. I am confident to say that with this experience with Bob, Sere nus Johnson will be more efficient and productive to meet our 2020 goals.
I am very please with Cogent Analytics and look forward to implementing all the procedures that Bob has introduced to us. We also look forward to our follow up phone conversations with Bob to ensure that we stay on course with continued improvements.
I highly recommend Cogent Analytics, especially Bob Hahn, to any company that is looking to set goals and improve their company management which will increase their overall success.
Sincerely,

Odle McGuire Shook – Letter
To Whom This May Concern:
I invited Cogent in to help address some operational concerns that the firm was encountering. The initial findings confirmed that we had issues that needed to be addressed for the company to move forward and build towards future growth. Irvin Lucas helped me work through the most critical things first, which was getting accountability back into the organization.
Irvin has put great effort into really understanding our business and what benefits us most. He helped in the areas of organization and operations by providing us a way to measure the progress of our projects, introducing short interval control to keep the staff accountable for completing projects on time and on budget. We now have the tools in place to motivate the staff to excel through performance-based job description and new profit-sharing opportunities. From an operational perspective, we have the tools to track and monitor the financial performance of our projects and can make immediate adjustments to ensure they are profitable.
Over the past 7 weeks together Cogent has partnered with Odle McGuire Shook to provide the tools, training and documentation needed to stay on track. I am excited to see where the firm will be in the next 6 months to a year after everything is fully implemented.
Thank you, Irvin for working with us and giving us a game plan. I look forward to reporting back to you with our progress in the future.

MainOcean LLC – Letter
We signed up with Cogent Analytics in late 2019 to review our current practices as well as help us identify areas where we could improve our organization. We identified several areas of opportunity including margins, best practices and staffing where we felt there were areas we could improve and thus impact our bottom line.
The process began with a weekly review of our current business model and we quickly identified areas where we were losing margin in our business. Once we all agreed the areas that needed the most focus, we began to put together a step by step action plan to address. The plan was formed by all key people in the organization to get the necessary buy-in with the project. Once that was done the work began with a week by week plan of what as going to happen and what was needed to be accomplished to stay on schedule.
As planned Cogent has delivered on their commitment with a very detailed and structured approach. The schedule was strictly held to and the impact of the changes have been immediately noticed. I would consider Cogent to be a great partner and highly recommend them for any future projects.

Sobo Networks – Letter
George Lauber of Cogent Analytics has done an amazing job of completely reorganizing the operations of my company in the span of six weeks. During the first week of his engagement, George recognized we had several employees in senior positions that were effectively being paid to do nothing but create issues. Over the next two weeks, George assisted me in replacing non-performers with individuals who are competent and capable of getting their work accomplished. The last three weeks were focused on reinforcing the new structure and routines implemented in the first three weeks.
I am now in complete control of my business. The sales, advisory, client service, and finance departments are all working towards clearly defined KPIs and targets that align with the direction I want the company to go in, which is UP.
I would recommend Cogent Analytics to any business owner who believes in himself but isn’t realizing the results he/she has set out to accomplish. Never give up on yourself or the vision you had for your company the day you started it. Don’t let pride get in the way of success, admit you need help and ask for it. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern:
Before contacting Cogent, our company was a bit unorganized. No one really had defined job descriptions and everyone did a little bit of everything. This led to too many hands being in the same pot which created tons of confusion for everyone. Our bid prices were too low and our overhead was too high. We began to feel very stressed with our workloads and couldn’t seem to get out of our own way.
When Cogent stepped in to help us, we started small. Things like getting out of the yard earlier than normal, have materials shipped to job sites rather than the yard. We started to look at recurring payments and other costs to build our overhead budget. Matt was also able to define our roles both inside and outside of the office so that we weren’t duplicating work or missing out on something altogether.
Within a few weeks we started noticing little changes and noticed attitudes were also changing. Employees seemed more excited and more optimistic about the future and started working together much better than in the past. Over the next couple of months we made changes to our management structure and made changes in the way be bid projects and how we managed each project. We started keeping an eye on things we could control and it helped with cash flow tremendously.
I would recommend Cogent to any company that was in our position. We all have learned a lot over the past few months. The tools we now have can push us farther in the future and help us become an ever better company than before!
