Prior to engaging with Cogent, ARP Welding had never worked with a business consultant. We knew we had areas for improvement and recognized that we needed outside help, but we simply did not know where to start. The three-day discovery process delivered a tremendous amount of value to us in a very short time. Before the analyst arrived, we were already aware of most of the individual issues our company was facing. However, we had never looked at them in the context of one another. The analyst laid all of these issues out and layered them on top of each other. Seeing them presented this way, it became instantly clear that our problems were interdependent and were actually compounding to make each other worse as a whole.

The analyst provided clear, easy-to-understand metrics that I could directly connect back to the physical results and bottlenecks I was seeing on the shop floor. By only the second day of the process, I already had a significantly better understanding of my own business.

At the conclusion of the discovery phase, the analyst presented us with three straightforward options: do nothing, try to fix the issues ourselves, or bring Cogent in to help us fix them. Based on the large number of areas we wanted to improve and the clarity they had already provided, we chose to bring in their outside help to guide us through the implementation process.

Even if a business owner is not interested in retaining a consultant long-term and simply wants an outsider’s unbiased observations, I cannot recommend this process enough. The value is absolutely there to be had.
