When Cogent first came through the door, I was very skeptical. A lot of times a salesman comes in and turns out to be just that – a salesman who doesn’t deliver. At the beginning of this process, we were told, “In seven weeks you won’t recognize this company.” That has turned out to be true.

Day one of the intensive portion still had me very skeptical and not ready for change, but as time went by, Travis and Lamar’s experience started to show. It is very intimidating to have so many changes suggested at once, but the methodical approach has proven to be successful. Travis immediately began to understand how our company works and where our people fit within it.

We have been in business for 75 years but had grown to our maximum capacity. We were stuck in the bottleneck, working in the business instead of on the business. Travis broke everything down step by step—defining each person’s function within the company, measuring KPIs, and developing an organizational chart. Slowly and methodically, we kept moving forward.

The time and dedication started to show as we began to see improvements in morale and efficiency company-wide. Right from the start, we saw progress in the warehouse due to Lamar’s organization and overhaul of our inventory system. We reached a point where we were able to stage jobs the day before, maintain a more accurate inventory count, and improve efficiency in the field.

The support team that Travis and Lamar have at their disposal has proven to be extremely important to the overall success of this endeavor. As Lamar cycled out, Travis dug in, never shying away from the tough conversations. Teaching us to “measure, measure, measure” has changed the way I think about the business as well as the way I operate within it.

For many years, I felt there was no escape from the day-to-day problems and that I wasn’t truly capable of making the necessary changes to move forward and grow. In seven short weeks, I have seen real change.
